Surprise surprise… explains why this bill is such a disaster for wildlife & their habitats. We need balanced and informed evidence-based decision making, not this biased, subjective nonsense.
Really hoping my MP
@bengoldsborough.bsky.social will be voting in support of Amendment 130 🙏

Those who harm wildlife are also likely to harm people 🚨
The @wclnews.bsky.social Wildlife Crime Report this year highlights that 59% of people who commit crimes against wildlife are also associated with other violent crimes

This is URGENT and so important. Please do email your MP this weekend 👇🙏
Amendment 130 is the best chance to reduce the Planning and Infrastructure Bill’s risks to bat conservation. You can read more here: buff.ly/ACYQzDY

There are 1,500 scientifically described species of bats in the world, they account for more than a quarter of mammal species in the UK and around 20% of all mammal species worldwide. Bats play an important role in many habitats around the world. www.bats.org.uk/about-bats/w... #biodiversity #bats 🦇

Spent the morning in a wonderful patch of wet woodland in @broadsnationalpark.bsky.social preparing bespoke bat tree roosts assessment training 🦇🌳- whilst exploring came across this sleepy resident, nestled behind a callus roll in an oak (photo taken using an endoscope, under licence).

THANK GOODNESS! 😅 House of Lords debated Pt 3 of Planning & Infrastructure Bill today - voted in favour of amendment limiting EDPs to impacts like nutrient neutrality, air pollution etc i.e. NOT for protected species & habitats (which would have been disastrous & massive weakening of protections)… 🙌

Shhhh! 🤫 A little privacy please… Right outside my office door - a common pipistrelle #bat mating roost! A male is holed-up in here (in gap between rafter & cladding) with his little harem of females. They’re quite chatty too! 🦇🦇🦇 @batconservation.bsky.social @norfolknorwichbats.bsky.social

Why did the barbastelle cross the road? 🤔
Well, >half of them cross within the vehicle collision zone 🚗☠️, so we may never know... YES barbastelles really are at risk of direct mortality from roads & NO "hop-overs" aren't the answer. Great bit of v useful & timely research @kezomalley.bsky.social 👏

📢 New paper from my PhD! 🦇
Using 3D reconstructions of barbastelle bat flight paths over roads, we found that increasing canopy cover leads to lower flight heights, elevating collision risk.
