The Ford government is just malevolently stupid. Making up a rule that only medical students who went to high school in Ontario get priority placements is just so relentlessly dumb and drives away the future doctors we need.
Ontario judge grants international medical school grads a temporary lifeline
Ontario judge extends applications for grads who would have been excluded from first round of matching for residency under a controversial new rule.

Much like the rest of her writing, really.
Miller is asking the most important questions about her misconduct and her answers are all completely incoherent non-sequiturs, like she can't even understand why anybody would have a problem with this

My friend works on a Great Lakes freighter and was born just hours after the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. He wrote something about it on his site (where he often writes about life on the big freshwater lakers).

But wait, the Venetian patrician also only had to visit five shops? Or have his slave visit five shops, whatever, you know what I mean.
there's a certain personality that's very debilitating in modern life. 100 years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you'd go to five local shops and decide. now with the internet, you need to spend 1,000 hours so you can own the best version in the world like you're some venetian patrician

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

The Americans elected a megalomaniac with a planet-sized ego and the emotional regulation of a toddler. **Everything we do**, short of total submission to an ever-shifting set of rules, might upset the Americans, so we should do the stuff that allows us to sleep at night.
Canada always worried about what "might upset the Americans", when it needs to be worried about what "might encourage the Americans".
I’m just saying it would be neat if the leadership of a country of 40 million had more of a sense of their own independence than that of a mid-tier American university.

They're not conservative. They have no consistent judicial philosophy. They're simply partisans. The only check on their rabid loyalty to the Republican party is their commitment to outright plutocracy.
This is really important. The problem with the Roberts Court is not that they are conservative. It's that they are bad judges.
It's not just liberal judges they're doing this to. They're doing this to plenty of conservative judges too; judges who actually spent weeks and weeks poring over the details and with their arms deep in the guts of thousands of pages of documents and days of testimony.

Those judges are pissed.

Cheeseburger and beer, the old reward trick.

Anyway, "the statue of limitations" is perfectly legitimate, it's a character in Don Giovanni.
Lunch break at 2pm after completing day 6 of 8 of reading aloud the page proofs of my book with a friend. My brain has liquified. Typical typos caught today: Untied States, statue instead of statute.

The BC Conservative Party just announced they have removed John Rustad as their party leader.

Comes hours after Rustad said he was staying on despite 20 MLAs calling for his removal, arguing there was no mechanism for the party to turf him as leader after winning his leadership review.

Historically, ambitious Canadians have tended to become Americans and this applies just as much to grifters as to persons of talent. Perhaps more so.
Thinking about Olivia Nuzzi, there've been a bunch of people like her (any gender) that kinda rose up over the years in the media life. Can imagine a continued trajectory like hers, but in Canada there's not much $ to be made doing so they disappear into other things, occasionally popping up again.
