1 of 2. Can someone explain this to me?
Friendly DM received from an author who wanted to chat. Asks about my work, suggests we swap book links to Amazon. He has a gazillion reviews on Amazon, I have one (!)...

This is such an important piece. What's happening to film criticism - and so quickly - is deeply saddening.

Walking through Dublin City Centre at night is strangely uncomfortable for me considering I'm in the city centre every day for work. When you don't drink, alcohol culture comes across a ugly and intimidating. Tried helping a drunk guy who fell three times (at 7pm) but he just told me to F Off.

😡 Yet again, undervaluing critics and criticism. So stupid imho. Criticism is fun to read for anyone! Biz stories about Hollywood not so much!

I love Animal Farm, but it makes me cry as I relate to Boxer. I agree with this article's sentiment that it "is an eternal warning against political leaders who hijack potentially noble movements for their own selfish purposes." #booksky

This morning, I'm writing Lecture 10 for my series on the Inklings from The Great Courses. The topic? Charles Williams. Come on, Higgins: You should be able to write this one in your sleep, with one hand tied behind your back, backwards, & in high heels. #Inklings #CharlesWilliams #TheOddestInkling

This bit begins:

or better still
colour me adorable,
nerdy cool,
(beyond the pale,
reproductively speaking),
and so on and so forth,
whatever proves you right,

Soar 1/3
I had a bash at a poem.
(see images or visit philipcliveminty.com/i-wroted-a-p...)
It begins:

i am interested in plane wings
which makes me boring,
because interesting things are
where you went on holiday
with other people who went on holiday

Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Madly romantic, magnificently overdone, and more themes than a lisping dressmaker (I'm copyrighting that gag).

2 of 2. Dickens continues: "Behind dingy blind and curtain, in upper story and garret, skulking more or less under false names, false hair, false titles, false jewellery, and false histories, a colony of brigands lie in their first sleep."

1 of 2: Chapter 26 from Bleak House. What a great way to start the chapter and set the scene. 'Sallow face' conjures the sulphurous atmosphere of industrial London.

Dickens makes me laugh. In Bleak House, milquetoast Mr. Snagsby is under the formidable thumb of Mrs Snagsby. In the two words, 'unchallengeable reality', the author tells us so much about the poor man's life.
