* I write books and cleave to the minority opinion that they’re great.
* I read and review 19th & 20th century fiction.
* Sometimes I spout gibberish.

This is such an important piece. What's happening to film criticism - and so quickly - is deeply saddening.

I get it.
As a young man in 1980s West Bromwich, being teetotal made me an absolute freak of nature. As a student, it was even worse. Struggling with an alcohol-dominant culture crops up a lot in my memoir of that time.

Siegfried in Fritz Lang's 1925 'Die Nibelungen'. The whole 6 plus hours is one long concatenation of haunting, beautiful shots.

Just before Charlton's big revelation. " "Damn you! Damn you! Goddamn you all to hell!"

Not up to your standards, but I enjoy displaying daft signs in the car. No pics but I keep the word files.

Those really are shit waxworks. If you're a fan of shit exhibitions, and you find yourself in the Pacific Northwest, USA, have a look at the Oregon Film Museum in Astoria. It's full of deeply unimpressive objects, such a license plate used in the film Kindergarten Cop

Soar 3/3

See images or philipcliveminty.com/i-wroted-a-p...

This bit begins:

or better still
colour me adorable,
nerdy cool,
(beyond the pale,
reproductively speaking),
and so on and so forth,
whatever proves you right,

Soar 1/3
I had a bash at a poem.
(see images or visit philipcliveminty.com/i-wroted-a-p...)
It begins:

i am interested in plane wings
which makes me boring,
because interesting things are
where you went on holiday
with other people who went on holiday

Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Madly romantic, magnificently overdone, and more themes than a lisping dressmaker (I'm copyrighting that gag).

1 of 2: Chapter 26 from Bleak House. What a great way to start the chapter and set the scene. 'Sallow face' conjures the sulphurous atmosphere of industrial London.

Dickens makes me laugh. In Bleak House, milquetoast Mr. Snagsby is under the formidable thumb of Mrs Snagsby. In the two words, 'unchallengeable reality', the author tells us so much about the poor man's life.

Hello, thanks for this.
New to social media, so still figuring all this out.
My novel 'The Best Nuisance I Can Be' is available on Amazon bit.ly/3I5ItW2
It's the frank memoirs of a working-class oddball at college, based on my 1980s diaries.

Jean Brodie Pt 2: "...The warning [of Jean Brodie] is that fascism comes clothed in noble aspect and purpose. It can be magnificent as Jean Brodie’s profile, as uplifting as her eulogies on art and beauty." See v long review here: bit.ly/44tpo7o

Miss Brodie Part1. Want to read a very long review of this clever, dense, layered, short novel that’s replete with moral ambiguities? Of course you don't! But it's here anyway: bit.ly/44tpo7o
