It's been a long time since I published something at Dinner Table Don'ts. While many people already know that I'm going back to school, I wrote a little bit about what l I'm looking forward to. Additionally I included 3 links.

NDP stands with the Sikh community in condemning PM Carney’s invite to Modi for the G7 Summit. Modi’s regime is linked to the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada must prioritize justice and human rights, not diplomacy with those who threaten our sovereignty. 2/

I haven't spent much time on BlueSky. I found Twitter crowds be relatively welcoming, with communities forming naturally. It's BlueSky similar? How is it different than Twitter?

I've recently discovered the existence of the Women's National Football Conference. Unlike other iterations of professional women's football leagues, this league looks like they're interested in mounting competitive football games, instead of trying to sexy-up the game

Arkady Ostrovsky writes in his book The Invention of Russia: The Rise of Putin and the invention of Fake News: "The only reason, according to this logic, that the American and Western economies were still afloat was because of cheap natural resources supplied by Russia. “

The more reading I do, the more convinced I am that understanding the war in Ukraine, and what Putin's end goals might be is found in the wreckage of the Soviet Union. At min, the West has not lived up to promises made to a newly emancipated Ukraine when it demanded destruction of nuclear weapons

Getting used to sharing too BlueSky instead of Twitter has proved to be more challenging than I expected... You can't build a social media profile without investment in it, and I first signed up for Twitter in 2009. That's a long time....

I've been reading this book, which is a much a story of the break up of the Soviet Union as it is anything else. V Putin is a product of his environment, A KGB officer hearing into midcareer as the country he is supposed to be conducting intelligence for is in the process of a second revolution

Generative AI in particular is a bullshit engine (in the philosophical sense). Its success is in convincingly (NOT accurately) mimicking the form (NOT substance) of something. The better it gets the harder it is to demonstrate that it is inaccurate because it takes actual expertise to do so.

Always happy to discuss with the Senator or his staff why RFK Jr is such a dangerous pick. I've been following his antivax activism for 20 years. Just one small piece here.

President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead HHS has a long history of discounting and peddling misinformation about the HPV vaccine.

People seem to still be in denial about how much damage Trump and/or Kennedy can do to the NIH. Let's be clear here. They can essentially destroy its value as a research institute.

The fundamental problem is that Trump and his circle neither understand nor respect science.

I eventually realized that I was in an abusive relationship with a likely non-existent God.
Excellent comparison.

Recovering from a brain injury is a lot more confounding than the recovery from the abdominal tumour was. That said, I'm rediscovering a love for neurophysiology, something I was really interested in as a kid when I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. While I'm never became one. I have been a patient

I complain about my chronic pain often enough. What's weird about my chronic pain is that it's not actually that part that you perceive pain in that is telling you that you're in pain. No, it's your brain, talking to itself, and lying to itself about the sensations it is experiencing.

I'm feeling grateful tonight for all the tangible support I've received as I go through the process of submitting my application to do my PhD. My friend and mentor Curt worked with me to create a timeline and deadlines for gathering all the components of the application together..

My experience of pain is so confusing sometimes... Like, I know that the pain I experience is not signaling that there is something amiss with my leg, instead it's simply a damaged brain's inaccurate interpretation; and erroneous signaling of a sometimes negligible, if not nonexistent sensory input

After nearly 10 years, my abdominal specialist at the Grand River Cancer Centre has released me from his care. After 10 years of clear scans, it's unlikely that the tumour will return. It's not impossible, but it's more likely to be found based on symptoms than with CT scans every 6 months. 😁😁😁
