I’m overwhelmed that in the span of a few years, @verasight.bsky.social went from an idea to providing data to the leading news networks’ election night coverage. This is an amazing validation of the outstanding team at Verasight and an unwavering commitment to innovation and data quality.

More great work from @gelliottmorris.com and the @verasight.bsky.social team on synthetic samples. The area where it is probably most enthusiastically embraced is market research ... turns out it doesn't work well for simulating consumer behavior either www.verasight.io/reports/coff...

some more work from me here for the academic crowd interested in "ai polling"
In Verasight’s second synthetic data paper, @gelliottmorris.com, Ben Leff and @peterenns.bsky.social find that the performance of synthetic samples does not consistently improve (and can perform worse) with additional administrative data or real survey responses. Link in the thread.

Our recent polls have been featured in @cnn.com, @nytimes.com, and by the Governor of California’s office. Our work is also being cited by columnists like @jamellebouie.net to help interpret public sentiment on national issues.

Read the white paper, it's very well done, but the answer is "no, they do not actually work"
In polling world, “synthetic sampling” (using LLMs to replace human respondents) has been getting a lot of attention recently. Last wk, Ipsos announced a synthetic panel!

But does it actually work? Here’s a white paper I wrote: “Your Polls on ChatGPT”

Two pertinent graphs from me tonight...

First, U.S. support for bombing Iran is very low — much lower than support was at the time for the American military attacking Afghanistan, Iraq, and ISIS.

The "Abundance Agenda" is broadly popular, per our new June Strength In Numbers/ @verasight.bsky.social poll.

The exception is for local zoning reforms.

Here’s our alternative to the other pretty obviously biased polls floating around on the subject: www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trump-appr...

One huge upside of our independent poll with @verasight.bsky.social : Not having to publish in peer-reviewed journals or sell party strategy means we can publish null effects!

We tested economics and immigration messaging. Fx are too small to pick up.
