(... while, of course, there is persistent discrimination of foreigners on the job market.)
What's in a name? Study confirms foreigners face persistent discrimination in Finnish jobs market
An update to a 2016 study found a slight improvement in the number of people with foreign-sounding names being called to interviews — but that discriminatory practices remain in place.

Finland, a country with a 10% unemployment rate, has now decided that being unemployed shows that you aren't "successfully integrated" and therefore don't deserve citizenship.
Parliament approves further tightening of Finland's citizenship laws
The latest changes mean that an applicant will be denied a Finnish passport if they have relied on social welfare benefits for more than three months over a two-year period.

Allaoleva on saanut huomiota & koettu valaisevaksi; siispä muutama kriittinen kommentti. 1/n
On käynyt selväksi, että 15 vuotta sitten Raha ja talous -blogissa alkanut todistelu Suomen rahoituskestävyyden tosiasiallisista perusteista on jäänyt hämäräksi jopa sellaisille toimijoille, joiden ehdottomasti uskoin ja oletin tämän viestin ydinasiat sisäistäneet.

A new neuroscience study finds income inequality harms kids’ brain development and mental health, regardless of socioeconomic status.

It seems that even the well-off can’t shield their children from an unequal society.

Exactly this.

Defying almost every prediction, Finland was never swallowed by the Soviet Union. If we look at the root causes of that miracle, progressive policies instituted from the 1920s have to be among the most important reasons, arguably THE most important reason.
there was also deeper meaning here: when you own a plot of land and a house on it ... outright communism does not sound so appealing anymore.

postwar hearts and minds, Finnish style.
