Migration didn’t break the care system. It held it up.

Yvette Cooper says overseas recruitment must stop – but without rebuilding wages, housing and training, then what?

BREAKING: GMB Union says “Scrapping care visas will be potentially catastrophic. Care is utterly reliant on migrant workers and there's still over 130,000 vacancies.
We are working with the Government to deliver the pay rise care workers deserve. But this won't arrive soon enough to fill the void”

"it’s just austerity dressed up as border control"
Excellent article. I don't know whether I agree with the author's suggestion we are over reliant on immigration, however they make many great points. IF immigration must be reduced, what is the plan to replace the labour immigration provides us?
If Labour won’t defend the principle of immigration, it’ll keep losing the argument, and voters. Yvette Cooper’s interview with Kuenssberg showed just how far the party's shifted.

Read how Labour is retreating on immigration without a plan.

Labour's shift on migration may assuage voters' concerns - but risks harming struggling care sector

Only 23% of votes cast. That’s all it took to win a council seat.

In some wards, fewer than 1 in 10 of the electorate backed the winner.

What does that say about our democracy?
