I made a zine about why we lift up hopeful climate fiction stories on the Bright Green Futures podcast!

You can download/print/share them (plus I have a handy video on the trick of folding them): brightgreenfutures.substack.com/p/bgf-anthol...

cool cool cool so you were doing the absolute barest minimum for over a decade and causing every marginalized person on that site to roll for psychic damage every time we logged in, but now even THAT has been taken away

like okay, Elon, you win, I already gave up, I’m not going back
Ireland’s Business Post published X’s leaked moderation policy. “Internal documents show how X content moderators are no longer authorised to take action against accounts posting racist, sexist, and homophobic [& transphobic] content”. Here’s a list of what they can’t remove:

Armistice day day, so the home secretary invited a bunch of seig-heiling, swastika tatted dickheads to the cenotaph, where they proceeded to fight the police.

God it's embarrassing to be British sometimes.

The 60-Year-Old Scientific Screwup That Helped Covid Kill
All pandemic long, scientists brawled over how the virus spreads. Droplets! No, aerosols! At the heart of the fight was a teensy error with huge consequences.

Silicon Valley says it loves innovation and new ideas.

The main idea for social networks that has never been tried is making AGGRESSIVE MODERATION the main product and trading GROWTH SPEED for COMMUNITY HEALTH.

But that will never get funded by the libertarian men of venture capital.

how cool is it that @skyfeed.xyz has its own algos ready to go
if you want to try the new feeds *now* even the new, much improved what's hot, the `custom-algos` branch of the official app works now without any tweaks you can go to @bsky.app and @skyfeed.xyz to subscribe to them and then pin them

Sure, and happy to answer questions.

Our basic plan is: "federation is scaling!"

We're going to run a number of PDS instances and (transparently) place users on the best instance for them based on laws/latency/etc.

And we'll do classic big-ol-distributed-systems stuff for BGS/AppView aggregators.
Hi @jacob.gold can you talk a bit about the infra growing in sync with user base?
And what's the plan for near future, if any.
Thank you

In medieval England, people paid rent in eels! In c.1100, there were 540,000+ eels paid every year as rent!.

Here's a map of places that paid rents:
