the two main priorities of a scholarly society are the conference and the journal, and if funding other programs beyond those has eclipsed those core functions...it has ceased to be a scholarly society and is now just a regular nonprofit

Marian, i would like to push back and say you were not just “asking questions.” You framed your posts as dismissive and hostile to the petition. That is your wont, but you don’t get to retcon that. I do hope you read the rest of the archive and documents in the good faith

I’d also like to point out that even if all salaries were paid by grants that’s also not a good financial model for the society

Also, how long do we have to wait? This was all happening this past summer and they decided to stay and do nothing about it in regards to the membership or the council.

I don’t know the answer to that, but your question is obviously deflecting from the fact that egregious overreach was conducted in creating the program for this year‘s committee and no one was informed of it.

This was an egregious overreach, and your comments also fail to acknowledge the more recent memos included. Perhaps you should take another look

Marian, I would encourage you to read the full petition. One of the principle issues is the very lack of communication and transparency, when this happened in July, and none of it was acknowledged to or addressed by the Council or membership. THAT is a serious issue.
