England’s last lacemakers are shutting up shop
In lace country, around Nottingham, there are only a handful of people left who know how to operate machines that have run since the 1800s. Soon there will be none

In 2025 I’m shifting my work from design to climate.

It’s impossible to continue to witness the destruction of our environment caused by the cruise industry & sit idle.

My introduction to their reprehensible impact to port communities was in Venice:

#NoGrandiNavi. An open letter
Italian version They said it couldn’t happen. The cruise ships were too big to fail. Escorted by tugs at the bow and stern, traveling at 6 knots, the ships were…

📮For #PostboxSaturday here's a C20 favourite: the streamlined Type N, designed by Sir Kenneth Grange in 1996-99 as a 21st century version of the humble rural postbox.

Nicknamed 'Bantam' for its resemblence to the fuel tank on a GPO Bantam motorcycle, it was the last model to be made in cast-iron.

In the 1980s, when there was a gap in daytime TV, ITV would play classical music with a sci-fi video.

For a lot of people, it's been a weird "did it really happen and why does no one else remember it?" memory.

I'VE FOUND IT!

UPDATE: Disappointing news that C20’s application to list three site-specific dinosaur play sculptures at Teessaurus Park in Middlesbrough, has been rejected by Historic England.

Designed by Geneviève Glatt in 1977-79, they represent a rare major 20th.C public-art commission for a female artist.
