Yep
The conclusion of today’s column by @rafaelbehr.bsky.social Labour really does need to engage with, and win, the battle of ideas on tax and spend. As @steverichards.bsky.social says, ideas are the essence of politics and being a “political teacher” isn’t an optional extra in a Leader.

Tried this tonight.
Verdict: one bit is ok. Eating half in one go, not so much.
On balance 1/10 do not recommend 🤢

Now playing ...
Mum had this when me and foster sister were teenagers. We played it to death so me and fozzie chose Take Me Home Country Roads for mum's funeral. Picked this one up in a charity shop a few weeks ago ❤️

Watched 2 Christmas films this morning on ITVX.
One very exciting one had cowboys, an actual fight and a family feud. Plus an actor who once appeared in Bonanza AND Lindsay Wagner aka The Bionic Woman. What's not to love? 🌲☃️🌲

With new figures showing that more than one in three children in the UK are now living in poverty, with deprivation hitting a record high, it's good to see the Times focusing on the people who are really struggling

“It’s not just farming, it’s civil liberties.

We’ve got people locked up for tweets and paedophiles walking the streets.”

@lewisgoodall.com talks to farmers protesting Labour’s inheritance tax plans outside Parliament.

My journey to and from hospital this morning has been disrupted. Quite possibly by tax dodgers who want to avoid contributing to the NHS.

For lovers of snow ❄️ I give you the greatest snow ball fight in history. In 1854 300 people including stock brokers went into snowy battle at Liverpool’s Exhange. The Liverpool Mercury reported “Hats flew away, By the force of the ball, From heads that were grey, Or with no hair at all”.

If you bring central London to a halt in order to campaign against catastrophic climate change then you're a "barmy" eco "fanatic" who deserves to be locked up.

If you do the same to hang on to your multimillion pound inheritance tax exemption then you're a brave freedom fighter defying the odds

for some reason I’ve remembered what Jeremy Clarkson, who said he bought land to avoid inheritance tax, said on live TV about striking public sector workers (extra marks for use of ‘us’)

The protestors want to call it "the tractor tax" because calling it "the inheritance tax protest" would turn off public opinion.

The tractors coming into London today, in fact, pay no road tax, no congestion charge, and no ULEZ.

Exempt from all.

It'd be a terrible* shame if Clarkson got run over by one of his tractors.
