Outrage-evoking misinfo seems to have little concern for truth

It is shared more w/out reading, but people still could tell you it wasn't true, they just don't care

It still amazes me how many techies think that fixing a *massive* service outage like #cloudflare is akin to "turn it off and on again".

If we've learned anything over the past couple of decades, it's that no service, however well designed and architected, is immune from failure.

I'm finding time spent on here less and less valuable unfortunately.

Maybe I'll try to figure out a way to use this platform, but recent activity suggests that may be hard.

Suggestions on how to use Bluesky to get more out of it?

Back in the distant past, when I was a student, the Zoology department at Cambridge caught fire. Now, they didn’t have much in the way of computers, but they *were* next door to the Computer Lab, who, um, did. A bunch of microvaxen, which all got smoke damaged. And, more pertinently, the 1/n

I've turned on my heater on my garden cabin for the first time since the spring and my "smart radiator" thermostat is as unreliable as always...

It's not 19 degrees in here.

I also have a physical non digital thermometer that reads around 26 degrees so I'm not sure what the radiator is doing.

Yeah I dunno, maybe if I was creating a government document I might hide the fact I’d used ChatGPT to find the information.

This is the problem with social media. It's so easy to copy a post from someone else, and then get AI to "rework it" and then republish it.

So many videos do the same too.

Engagement = money

Stealing content is so easy now.
An article from a site called "Clean Tech Times" about Charlie Kirk and Big Oil money is trending in r/energy on Reddit

It's a completely plagiarized, unauthorized, unlinked version of an article I published the day before

I have no idea what to do about it except complain. It's so fucked up.

Reform are trying to sell the myth that deporting people and removing the rights of migrants will solve all the country's problems. It won't.

Know what would help solve the country's problems? Taxing the super-rich properly and closing the inequality gap.

France played really really well. England had their first real test of the tournament and only came through in the last few minutes.

Canada v England next week.

One of the UK success stories is the renewables capacity we have going into our grid.

Of course, there is more to do, but sometimes, we should just recognise and celebrate the wins we do have.
Cycling in to work with a stiff headwind and clear blue skies thinking "I wonder what the grid is looking like today?"

Surprise, surprise: 70% renewables, gas down close to 10%, prices in the single digits (and negative overnight). 🔌💡

Heartbreaking. The UK Govt needs to step up.
The UN has confirmed what we already knew: Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians.

Only last week our government were denying this reality and continue to sell arms to Netanyahu's genocidal regime.

They must wake up and act now to end the genocide.

I hardly use Bluesky at the moment, have stopped using Twitter (hate calling it X), and stopped using Facebook a long time ago.

Most people who have dangerous opinions only use these platforms to broadcast, not engage.

If nobody is held to account, then all it is is stirring up hatred and dissent.

Demonising asylum seekers is one of the worst aspects of current British life at present.

We should treat them with dignity and respect, not suspicion and fear.
🤯 Most people seeking asylum are not allowed to work and are forced to rely on state support—as little as £6.43 a day.

🤔 What might be a good way to help asylum seekers out of hotels?

🤝 Maybe let them work, gain financial independence and contribute to their communities!

We tax earned income more than unearned wealth.

That means if you work really hard with your hands or your brain- you're being taxed more than someone who happens to own an asset.

A cleaner of a building could be paying more tax than the owner!

We must reduce inequality.
