A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I’ll be keeping the live stream of NSW parliament open for the next few weeks and will post if anything significant about the changes to the EP&A Act is happening.
"Allowing climate change to be declared irrelevant would directly overturn the Mount Pleasant mine Court of Appeal precedent on emissions.

"The decision is one of the most significant judgements on climate in the history of NSW, and it must be respected."

Everything we learn about gas expansion in WA confirms those who are making the decisions are very clearly not working in the public interest.

The next and most obvious question to ask is - whose interests are being advanced by Government, and why?

My kid was looking up some stuff the other day and discovered a theorem that the universe as a whole, over time, does *not* conserve matter/energy, thought this was SO COOL and wondered aloud why we don’t all know the woman’s name who came up with it.

Me: “I bet I know.” 🫠
A final fuck off to James Watson and to every news source who’s naming him as one of two co-discoverers of DNA structure without mentioning Rosalind Franklin. 🖕

My local library got a copy of Extraction from @triofrancos.bsky.social — it starts with a description of the Atacama desert and salt flats in Chile and how a colonial narrative of emptiness justified extraction of mineral wealth. Made me dig out an old photo album from 2002 when I was there.

The lesson is clear — change doesn’t trickle down. It never has. It’s built from the ground up.
