Acorn Canada's breakdown of Doug Ford's landlord-friendly legislation to gut protections for renters

"They would make it easier for landlords to kick people out, harder for tenants to fight back, and make housing even more expensive"

Doug Ford Moves to End Rent Control
Doug Ford announced proposed changes to the LTB that would strip away key tenant protections, fast-track evictions, and open the door to ending rent control as we know it in Ontario.

I work in the legal clinic system where we primarily deal with housing matters. This would be devastating and would almost completely negate the Residential Tenancies Act.
In particular, they want leases to no longer necessarily remain in effect indefinitely, so that landlords have more options for creating tenant turnover.

A wonderful result for Canada’s Maeliss Trapeau.

She becomes just the sixth Canadian ever to break the 1:59 barrier in the 800m

Trapeau won’t advance to the final but she just posted a lifetime best time.

What a finish to the men’s marathon. A photo finish. After traveling that great distance it comes down to that. But it’s Alphonce Simbu from Tanzania 🇹🇿 who wins it. Remarkable stuff.

Canada’s Cam Levins finishes 12th in a great race by him.

Yes, we should also make election day a national holiday, ensure mail in voting is as accessible as possible and advance voting is expanded greatly.

Also, if the voting age is to be lowered to 16, there should be voting locations at every high school in the country specifically for students.
