Having done jury service three times now, this is overdue, sensible and proportionate. Trial by jury must remain, but not for a year-long trial for complex fraud involving cryptocurrency, nor is it appropriate and proportionate for the theft of a Mars bar.

The court minister is proposing a new intermediate court to speed up delays caused partly by an increase in rape cases.

I was at an anti-racist protest outside a children’s home in my ward earlier today where we outnumbered the far right by 3-1. Thanks to @kentonline.co.uk for giving it the coverage it needed. Canterbury is a lovely, hospitable place, but not for extremists.

Please, if you can, donate to this much needed cause in Canterbury. At the moment there’s nothing like it in terms of queer spaces. I love what @pupandtiger.bsky.social are planning.

I’m interested in speaking with any of the bus campaign groups in the north of England that have worked to secure bus franchising and public control of routes - now being rolled out or planned to be. Manchester, Yorkshire, Merseyside? Grateful for any thoughts and useful contacts people might have.

This just isn’t where voters are. Net zero policies are entirely ‘rational’ and supported by Labour, Tory, Lib-Dem and even many Reform voters, let alone Greens. You just need to bring people with you along the journey and ensure that the transition is just and fair.

One of the most fascinating days out I’ve ever had - an awesome experience.
Among many geopolitical arguments for saving British Steel there’s also the fine volunteers who will let you spend an afternoon in Scunthorpe driving a train around the active steel works on a massive private railway past vats of molten metal.

I had an incredibly surreal and delightful afternoon there with @paulprentice.bsky.social and @mrtimdunn.bsky.social who was greeted like a god by the gentlemen who ran the trains. And was left in awe by the scale of the operation.

They aren't 'snowflakes' for asking to be treated with dignity in public life. This LGBT+ history month, I asked for a timeline on:

➡A full trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
➡making anti-LGBT hate crime an aggravated offence
➡Reforming the GRA
