again, if you are on this stupid platform, it is time to leave it, especially if, say, you publish a very successful newsletter about the persecution of minority communities that the people who run the platform are actively persecuting
The Substack app apparently push alert promoted a Nazi newsletter to several users. Users have complained about it on Substack Notes but the company hasn’t responded. Generally push alert promos are for content a user is likely to interact with

Am I missing something? Why is it bad to allow librarians to remove materials from the library? To remove items from the collection that the patrons want, but that an individual librarian finds distasteful, is unethical but I don't see how that can be a 1st amendment issue.
everything means the opposite for these people. freedom
means your freedom to obey. the first amendment means their freedom to tell you what you can read and think.
En banc Fifth Circuit overrules decades of precedent and holds that there is no First Amendment right to receive information in a public library.

last night having a drink at the hotel bar while at #acrl2025 and the bartender says it's a quiet night, turns out librarians really ARE quiet, he jokes. who are the rowdiest conference types, I ask. He pauses and thinks for a moment before answering - cheer moms.

So. Well. This is news so enormous it's ungraspable: I am SFWA's 41st Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master. I don't know what to say. In lieu of brains-match-mouth coherence, here's a press release. I am overwhelmed.
Shock. Joy. And O. MY. GOD.
Sometimes news is so enormous I just don't know what to do with it, even—especially—when it's fabulous. I am overwhelmed.

Everyone's wrapped up in the incompetence of signalgate, but I can't stop thinking about the destruction of an apartment complex, and all the people in it, to target one person. Isn't targeting civilians a war crime?

You use the officials USGovt secure channels to hide communications from bad actors. You use Signal to hide communications from the USGovt.
As I explain here, security isn't even the biggest part of the Signal Scandal. This is to keep actions secret from the US government. It's how to do crimes, bribes and more. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/signa...

Not a single Democrat should appear in the audience. Instead, hold town halls in every district describing the harm that is being done.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
