Listen, I have a lot of feelings about American bathroom stalls. They're all angry.

It seems that I can no longer leave a voicemail for @fetterman.senate.gov outside of business hours. They just ask you to call back between 9-5.

Another disgusting part of all of this is the proof a blatant war crime to which the Vice President of the United States responded: Excellent.

Just angrily called all of my elected officials to demand the firing, resignation, or impeachment of every administration individual involved in that Signal chat.

WTF, University of Pittsburgh? Making a promise to a science writers conference, then withdrawing support after signing a commitment? Why did you all back out of supporting the people doing this important work? www.nasw.org/article/scie...

Called my reps again today to demand that they express support for Ukraine and to say that Trump's suspicious behavior on this issue makes the US look weak and unreliable. 5calls.org

I've had a hell of a writing day, in a good way.

This is why I practice writing, so that when I NEED to do it FAST, my chops are READY.

For me, it doesn't matter what kind of writing I'm doing. It all exercises the muscle. Today I had to handle a few things quickly, and I was in shape & ready.

Listen, infrastructure / software / tools, in general, do not DO anything. They allow humans to do things USING them.

Today's annoyance: Infrastructure is not going to ENSURE transparency. It might collect information together that allows a human being to ensure transparency.

Hi everyone, if you have any e-books that you bought through Amazon, you have 2 days to download them. On Feb 26, Amazon is ending the ability to download their ebooks and trasfer them via USB, basically rendering all of your Amazon ebooks cloud-only and controlled entirely by the Amazon ecosystem.

Saturday night pasta. This was our first shaped pasta and it was a perfect pocket for peas to peek out.

New Year's Fruit Resolution, post 2. I've seen pomelos before many times but never eaten one. I really dislike grapefruit so these seemed like a fruit that I was unlikely to enjoy. I was glad to be proven wrong. I let the fruit sit for a few days to get extra ripe.

The NSF also supports so much open source software development that tech companies rely on.
Maybe it's time for, idk, those companies to ALL support open source software communities and developers with their profits instead of relying on government funding.
What tech company will be the first to stand up and say that gutting the NSF is bad actually?

The economic argument seems pretty clear

Less NSF --> fewer PhD students --> fewer researchers --> smaller AI tech pipeline --> slower progress --> less competitive globally

Now that Elon Musk and some random college students who have LinkedIn usernames like "big balls" have access to your social security number and financial history—you should probably freeze your credit.

The only analogy I can come up with too, but instead of a 22 year old Heritage intern it's a 19 year old intern from a Musk company who goes by bigballs online* and instead of Iraq it's the most powerful country in the history of the world

I'm glad that America is doing real classic end of empire stuff. A king who is visibly losing his mind declaring a war based on a dream he had. Greedy courtiers feuding over access to the treasury. Some looks are timeless.

I made my five calls this morning. I demanded that my senators stand up against Elon Musk's undemocratic accessing of our personal information and payment systems and called on them to take action to stop this coup.

Facilitated my first adoption for the cat rescue today and it was the mood boost of all time.

Sometimes, we have to do the hard things to make a better life, even if that life is not ours. It's a good reminder.

New Year's Fruit Resolution, post 1. I resolved that whenever I saw a fruit I had never had before, I would buy it, try it, and learn about it.

Today I encountered "mandarinquats" at my local grocery store.

The only good news about the r-word coming back is that it’s a dead giveaway for who was actually dedicated to social progress and who was just afraid of getting yelled at. You saw this with Zuckerberg as well.
I guess I'm too woke because I find the proliferation of this really off-putting and gross. The fact that it's now reached the "enlightened centrists" class is depressing.
