Is there a reason Cambridge publishes so much material on Schopenhauer? They've released the authoritative translations in English for pretty much everything except the manuscripts, a companion, now another companion, the Cartwright biography, Jacquette's book. Is an editor just really into it?

Dog they passed a law banning gender affirming care. The options are sue to try to stop it or don’t.
This framing is beneath contempt. The Christian right and MAGA launched an unprecedented assault on the civil rights of a tiny minority and successfully weaponized the pseudoliberal establishment - led by the NYT - to provide it with a medical controversy pretext that doesn’t actually exist.

Somehow it feels like aesthetics and philart are coming back in a big way but no one is hiring for it. I've seen a handful of people talk about aesthetics saving their love for philosophy mid-career, but it seems like it's still gloom and doom for those who are very early career.

The thing about real-ID social media is there is crushing pressure to linked-inify yourself. And what makes anonymous social media is that you can take risks with jokes and be playful and flippant and even vulnerable in a way that generates (something) intimacy with the people in the same corner.

The cool thing about Sinclair's pamphlet "Feminism" is that it really flips the expectations of a 21st century reader. Her target is a kind of scientific misogyny and one of the main tools in her arsenal for defending feminism is Schopenhauerian metaphysics.

the main point of inspiration i take from schopenhauer is trying to make all of my little guys say the same thing

I had a kind of nightmare where I was reading symbolist poetry and it wasn't as good as I remembered. It was just not hitting. What was really nightmarish about it was that I came to have the sense that the poems were objectively kind of lame.

The good news about living in the worst all possible worlds is that it can't get any worse.

Is there someone who commands the same violent, sovereign-like authority over fancy women's wear that Derek Dieworkwear commands over men's wear?

having a "rosebud" moment where I say "Hell is real" as I'm dying and everyone thinks I'm having a religious epiphany but I'm just remembering the signs on I-71

i'm kind of wondering if my point is just "this other guy's aesthetics are right and schopenhauer thinks so too" :/

There's this kind of dialectic with Schopenhauer scholars where you can be like "Well, he does think that rationality is feminine, that intellect is feminine and so on" and then someone replies "But will is the dominant part and masculine." But he also thinks the dominance of the will is bad!
