Here’s the thing about mask bans and medical exemptions.

Even if you believe the police won’t harass folks for masking (which is a position of privilege as they WILL harass marginalized people)… bans embolden anti-maskers & they become more aggressive.

They put vulnerable people in danger:
‘Scared to put on my mask’: Cancer patient says she was intentionally coughed on in spat over mask
The Republican-led state House passed a bill Tuesday that would adjust exceptions to the state law governing masks. The bill is awaiting a decision by Gov. Roy Cooper.

If you’re dealing with Long Covid - there’s a chance you’re also dealing with MCAS and/or POTS/Dysautonomia.

They’re two of the most common comorbids - and can have a devastating impact on quality of life.

New allergies? Alcohol intolerance? Dizziness? Fatigue? Fainting?

My diet is extremely limited. I’m already malnourished & may require a feeding tube

I’ve been able to keep myself going by being very specific with what I eat, how it’s prepared etc. Otherwise I get anaphylactic

If those foods are unavailable or unaffordable … I will starve

The canary, yet again
It's great that non-profits help, but they cannot reach everyone.

The Food Not Bombs model can't provide food for people with specific nutrition needs, like medical diets, etc.

We still need to fight for those government supports, not just pretend it's okay if they disappear.

1/?
The FDA might not take H5N1 seriously but every Mask Bloc is stocking up on N95s.

SNAP might get cut off but Food Not Bombs will still be handing out food each week.

FEMA might get gutted but Mutual Aid Disaster Relief will still be mucking & gutting houses.

cis folks, please read this hideous thing. if you didn’t believe it was all one fight before, they snuck in some “fetal personhood” here. we’re in this together.

and remember: if you know a trans person, *no, you don’t.*

*we* get to decide when/if we disclose. don’t put your trans friends at risk.

A while back I said how rainbow capitalism was like a horror movie killer wearing the face of one of its victims or monster that learned to mimic human speech to lure prey, or words to that effect, and I never like being right in these matters

Mask bans are not the answer. Eric Adams has been hinting at bans since North Carolina instituted one

It’s wild to think a criminal won’t commit a crime because they can’t wear a mask while they do it

If you think bans won’t harm marginalized people - or that medical exemptions are enough read 👇🏼

People think Covid advocates want to “take us back” to lockdowns. In reality we want to leverage the tools and technology we have to drastically limit transmission without the need for lockdowns or economy damaging measures.

As Conor said - it could be an economic multiplier!
1. For obvious reasons, there is currently a considerable amount of discussion regarding the efficacy of lockdowns as public health measures. It's very important to be mindful of a few points regarding this media discourse.

The only acceptable response to finding out hospital acquired Covid is 10% fatal is “why aren’t we doing more to protect patients.”

If your response is “they were going to die anyways” you need to check your ableism.

Patients go to hospital to get well & we are failing them.

The hardest part of the Covid pandemic is realizing how few people are willing to do small things to help someone else

Deep down they KNOW they’ve likely infected someone who’s ended up severely ill - they don’t care.

They don’t have to face the person they harmed - so they do nothing to stop it.

“Though some people want right to die, many of us are still fighting for right to exist.”

Remember the “who do we not save?” Whiteboard or DNRs in disabled people’s medical files without consent?

The State (and medical profession) values us less than others. This is why we oppose assisted death.
MPs may trust doctors to manage assisted dying. Disabled people like me cannot | Liz Carr
Two friends recently woke up in hospital to find ‘Do not resuscitate’ orders on their notes. We’re all too aware that some lives aren’t valued as much as others, says the actor and disability rights a...
