I have never been skeptical of a BLS jobs report before... I have no reason to doubt this one but this sudden jump in added jobs for Sept as Aug is revised down and Mfg slumping is surprising.

Outside of Aerospace and Military manufacturing, jobs and manufacturing are hitting the breaks. Staffing has virtually stopped in the Mfg industry and we have been in a Mfg recession for months. 5 months of declining numbers.

Finding a new job is tough right now. People reported after a layoff 53% sent more than 50 applications, 1 in 5 had to send out over 100. 26% found a new job in 4-6 months, 7% in 7-12 months, while 5% remained unemployed for over a year.

Fed forecasters revise job growth for the 4th quarter down from 70,700 to 30,800. The average addition of monthly jobs downwardly revised from 125K to 55,200. Unemployment numbers remained relatively unchanged.

How the jobs reports will be received is up for debate. Fear that politics will play a role in these numbers is running high. The Admin has gone from saying that the reporting may never be released to it will be released next week.

With the Gov reopening and people going back to work the pressure on jobs/unemployment has eased but the next shutdown is looming in Jan. This is not the way to run a Gov or an economy but it is where we find ourselves.

In a continued issue for the industry, Dice revenue slips with low job seekers/advertisers and a general move away from traditional sites. Clearancejobs sees a moderate gain as Gov/Military hiring seen as one of the only growing areas.

IT staffing slips but solution services grow. As firms see project on hold and clients moving slowly in the hiring process, off site work becomes a (generally) fixed cost alternative for companies.

Job openings are at their lowest level in 4 1/2 years. Staffing saw this 6 months+ ago but there have been signs of a floor. The current level of openings leaves some doubt that we have hit the bottom. Trying to stay optimistic.

Although hiring has been slow, layoffs have been tempered but they are accelerating. Oct sees the highest layoff rate in 20 years cutting more than 150K jobs. Still a bad slope to be on at this point.

Continuing to hope that we have hit the bottom. US added 42K jobs in Oct which is low, but an uptick from pervious months. No federal data but this is what we have to look at. Staying cautiously optimistic.

It is not just IT firms being affected by the H-1B fee. Healthcare in the US is supplemented by specialists and providers from outside the US. The fear is that this will cut off the worlds best and brightest from our hospitals.

US Manufacturing contracted in Oct for the 8th straight month. Inflationary pressures on raw materials eased which could help stop the decline and Mfg. Hiring at all but Aerospace/Gov suppliers has all but stopped. US still in a Mfg recession

Fed cuts interest rate with job loss fears leading the decision making but noting a lack of Gov data as a driver to hold on cutting again this year. The lack of jobs data coming out of the gov causing fed to move carefully.

More on new terms... "No hire no fire" is a new one for me showing a stagnating job market. But that seems to be changing with more companies announcing significant layoff activity and the economy shows little sign of change and the shutdown continues.

With the layoff announcement from Amazon, it is worth looking at 2025. This has been a tough year for jobs and the hope is we have hit the bottom. Staffing has leveled off to some extend but we are definitely in a stagnating labor market.

CPI rose in slightly in Sept but lower than expected. However, food and energy prices are leading the way including Natural Gas which IS UP over 11% this year. This likely insures a rate cut from the Fed but will do nothing to curb corp economic concerns.
