I haven't stayed closely enough connected to the Clemson Univ. community to have detail about the professors being investigated and fired for exercising their free speech rights. But I contributed to one GoFundMe for legal costs and would be glad to know of others. www.gofundme.com/f/support-dr...

St. Louis COVID-cautious folk: I got the Moderna mNexspike COVID vaccination today at the CVS in the Target at 900 S. Grand. I am over 65 and had an appointment but I asked for my son and the pharmacist said they would give the shot to anyone who asked for it. Check their limited hours.

I was talking to a friend about the midwest and suddenly put together a reason for the progressive/democratic traditions that have surprised me in St. Louis (eg. the zoo is free, the art museum is free). He said: "after 1848 we got the good Germans."

I’m sad to learn of the passing of Margaret Rossiter, a key pioneer in writing the history of women in science. It took a MacArthur Fellowship for her to get respect from many men in the field. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_W._Rossiter

I knew this was coming—97!—but it hits hard anyway. So grateful I got to take “math for tenors” from him at UCSC. And grateful for all he left us.
