And the SCOTUS justice who wrote both of these irrational decisions on whether immigrants counted as white or not to be able to naturalize was an immigrant himself too. Just had the "luck" of being born in England in 1860s.

I would be soooo interested in reading a long essay by Ta-nehisi Coates or Eve Ewing about what happened on the way to Kirk's attempted canonization. This makes facially neutral policies--like poll taxes and literacy tests--that we know were adopted for discriminatory purposes legal. Organizations can now simply claim there was no discriminatory intent regardless of outcome. It's unconstrained institutionalized racism.
