What's ominous is all of the trusted women of color who know a lot about AI are saying that a crash is on the way and the white guys are pretending they are taking it to the moon. This means that a crash is definitely on its way.

And the SCOTUS justice who wrote both of these irrational decisions on whether immigrants counted as white or not to be able to naturalize was an immigrant himself too. Just had the "luck" of being born in England in 1860s.
The best moment in the History of the Word Caucasian came in a series of Supreme Court cases during the immigration panic of the 1920s.

The Naturalization Act of 1790 said that only "white" people could be naturalized as American citizens, but that only raised questions about what counted as white?
It stems from a literal belief that white peoples descended from the Caucasus mountains after Noah’s ark

'FREE SPEECH'
According to a new court filing, the Trump administration has a six-page list of banned words that Head Start locations are forbidden from using when describing their programs.
Among the censored words: "disability," "race," "women," "trauma," "Gulf of Mexico." Short thread with the full list. 🧵

veneration and control of the body is a classical fascist project

it's part and parcel in the make-believe that bad things happen to bad people, and we're good, and also we won't die

hitler & the nazi party were "crunchy" and today's austrian-german crunchiness is descended from this
Feels like the US has spent the last 5+ years on the verge of some kind of secular moral revival that keeps getting channeled into weirdo lifestyle puritanism
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Anyway.

the only thing that doesn’t appear to be illegal race discrimination to the conservative legal movement is actual racist discrimination
worth noting here that the position of the conservative legal movement is that trying to remedy environmental racism is itself illegal race discrimination

I would be soooo interested in reading a long essay by Ta-nehisi Coates or Eve Ewing about what happened on the way to Kirk's attempted canonization. To me this was one of the most interesting things of the year on multiple levels. It's rich text starting with calling his killing an "assassination."

sure looks like at the state level, Democrats have decided to win. Might be good idea for those stuck in the DC Dem strategist bubble to talk to some of them instead of just each other

I've spoken with 20 of the 25 over past year - and learned a lot. They all knock doors. Talk to actual voters

“Our rejection of this theory will restore true equality under the law by requiring proof of actual discrimination, rather than enforcing race- or sex-based quotas or assumptions.”

Proving intent has always been a slippery slope. See the words of @victorerikray.bsky.social
This makes facially neutral policies--like poll taxes and literacy tests--that we know were adopted for discriminatory purposes legal. Organizations can now simply claim there was no discriminatory intent regardless of outcome. It's unconstrained institutionalized racism.

Every time I hear one of Trump's goons say 'illegals are taking your houses' I laugh & laugh & 🙄. It is another lie among many & one of the many most ridiculous things to come out of their mouths. How stupid do they think people are? Private equity & corporate owners.

I need you to listen to and share this story - of how Trump is preparing to abandon Ukraine in exchange for Russian money for his billionaire friends.

It could be the greatest corruption of American foreign policy in our history. Russia gets Ukraine. Trump's friends get rich.

Setting aside euphemisms, the domestic political priorities will be: ongoing immigration crackdowns; further attacks on reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, and education; extensive efforts to dismantle worker, consumer, and environmental protections; and continued expansion of the unitary executive.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?
