So apparently all that talk about the Pokémon Company putting a patent in for summoning monsters was almost entirely bogus.
Yes, they did put a patent in place based around capturing and summoning monsters but it only covers direct copy or plagiarism of Pokémon's structure/combat and the code.

Something I see a lot is the few times top level does try and give advice on improving its hard to translate that lower down without coming across poorly (Fuzzys posts about solo being a prime example.) In general I think its good practice to just ask stuff when your confused about it.

That’s not how software patent works. Just like Square Enix didn’t *own* active time battle despite their patents (1991-2011). Grandia and other contemporaries had similar battle systems with no legal problem.
