Q&A from a talk I gave last week.

Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?"

A: Fascism. It's fascism.

Do wut???! 🤦‍♂️
This is beyond stupid.
This is insane. Republicans have inserted language into the budget reconciliation bill that would ban states from regulating AI in any capacity for 10 years.

Thank you John Oliver for the piece a Minor League Baseball marketing! Needed that feel good segment. Plus, I loved how you highlighted the teams that acknowledged their mistakes AND managed to capitalize on some for the benefit of others. Looking at you Oyster Catchers….
Here’s last night’s story about the recent deportations by the Trump administration, the flimsy pretexts behind them, and what the song “Closing Time” is actually about. Trust us, it’s not what you think: youtu.be/F2hN3JKZ-Go

NEW: WIRED got IP blocked by the Social Security Administration, among other outlets covering Musk's takeover.

Federal workers are now "prohibited" from accessing our reporting on "government-furnished equipment."

WaPo, NYT, and MSNBC are likewise banned, sources confirm.

I have my whole family hosted in a small M365 tenant. I have zero ethical issues over the use of mail transport rules and anti-spam policies to filter out the literal flood of far-right garbage my parents receive daily. It’s scary how much effort is going into the propaganda machine.

Dammit. While I know the other federal services getting gutted are in some ways worse. But NOAA and weather forecasting in general is a personal interest. Knew this was coming since removing NOAA was on the Project 2025 game plan.
NOAA is reportedly on the DOGE chopping block.

The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US.

A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans.

Again, this isn't about efficiency.

The volume of "could be tied up in court" statements makes me wonder if that's by design. Focus our attention on the court fights while the other hand is off doing the things they don't want us to see. Feels like the conman 101 playbook.
President Donald Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship faced a flurry of legal challenges from a bevy of states and civil rights groups, signaling that the effort could be tied up in court and unlikely to take effect next month as planned.

Legal experts said the president’s executive order would upend precedent and is unlikely to pass constitutional muster.
