I’ve said this before but anyway for the new people a lot of Gaius’s rants about the corrupting influence of religion actually make sense when, from his point of view, bahamut tempered and stole the life of his best friend. He’s always been indoctrinated by the state but this IS part of it.

You’re allowed to hate things authentically it just feels like there’s a lot of low hanging fruit where you have to say “I’m beating them to death” instead of using the degree of removal afforded by fiction to examine why people might feel internally conflicted about, say, a cold parent
I tend to go really cutting on heroic characters too it’s not just an evil man thing. And I don’t dislike any of them! The ones I’m most critical of are the ones fandom tends to glaze but even those guys are like. Good. Fine. Amusing. You don’t HAVE to hate any of these- whatever this is off topic
