Spanish bluebells in the UK are a current and long term threat to our native English bluebells through hybridisation. Perhaps in a few hundred years we will have lost purity. Why do we still allow their sale in the UK? It should be banned now. @wtscotsocial.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Living in Tucson, everything around us has yellow blossoms!
Cannot get over the Hawthorn & cow parsley, & even pinkish horse chestnut bloom craziness. The world is covered in white ice cream. How is this not in the papers?

Science break.
This kayaker gets approached by an otter every time he visits a lake. The otter was orphaned after the mother was in an accident, and the man helped it throughout it's rehabilitation process to later release it back into the wild. Volume up.🔊

A vibrant scientific community would share this video everywhere. It would engage deeply with its devastating implications and meaningfully discuss alternatives to animal testing.

But instead we scientists are a bunch of cowards, afraid to rock the boat, indoctrinated to rationalize the status quo.

Another Common Kingfisher (my favourite bird) - I followed it along the Leeds Liverpool Canal to the River Aire in Yorkshire.

I spent a few hours at Walthamstow Wetlands a few days ago and one of the kingfishers was very kind and allowed me to get this photo.

The graphic reality of what the current economic system (capitalism) is doing to our living planet, day in, day out: putting unimaginably diverse ecosystems en masse through a grinder to produce profits, mostly for a few.

Caring about nature, but ignoring this, makes zero sense.

Tonight, the Woodcock Moon rises. 🌕

Folklore whispers of Woodcocks awaiting this moonlit night to cross the seas and arrive in huge numbers on our shores.

It was believed tiny Goldcrests journeyed with them—riding on their backs!

Look up for the final Supermoon of the year.

I got well and truly scolded by a Verdin (a tiny bird only weighing about 0.25 oz and 4.5 inches long) when I let the hummingbird feeders on my home office window run dry - the Verdin likes sugar water too!
