Idk how I am going to find a new place I can afford, even with a co-signer and roommates bc prices have gone up so much. People keep buying up small houses here and turning them into airbnbs instead of renting them to locals, and few in Alaska are dumb enough to move in winter. Nothing is available!

What happened?? Work on adjacent unit blew something up, nuked our water heater, and has left me with half power. Landlord can’t afford repairs and is kicking me out instead. Enjoy my Edison panel from the 1940s, original to the home.

@mac-b5.stickimporters.com do you happen to know if there’s a way to easily extract (or find!) the contour lines of a topo map? I’m looking for just the contour lines of the Fairbanks area for a project

I just looked at the BOR and honestly, this is happening bc it’s comprised of C-suite level businesspeople and not mushers.
Lastly, get new blood. The current CEO and Board just don't seem to get it and the race is bleeding support - not just from sponsors, but from mushers and fans. It's expensive and it's rapidly becoming less attractive than races like the Kusko 300. If it can be saved, it needs new blood. 7/7

Justin went to the uni where I work and since I’m in their PR dept, I knew immediately what we had in Justin. How could Iditarod not see it too??
They have amazing stories every year - human and canine - yet won't tell them if they aren't in the front pack. The PR they could have done with Justin Olnes's rescue dogs. With Pepe being almost 12. Every musher has those stories, but the Iditarod and the Insider ignore them. 4/

Tbh Nascar also had this problem of their own creation — pack racing on superspeedways— and to fix it they invented a car that can launch into the air like a plane. I’m not joking. Google Ryan Preece, he’s currently flying very close to the sun literally and figuratively. Surprised he’s still alive.
They also can't decide what they want to be - a NASCAR race or an Alaska survival adventure. So that leaves them trying to be two things and doing both poorly. The CEO won't stop giving AR activists the attention they want. They get more insular when they need to be more inclusive. 3/

White women. Send white women. We will get any animal.
Since Jackie’s escape on Valentine’s Day, Thom Young-Bayer has been strategizing with animal control officers how best to recapture her.

So far, cheeseburgers haven't worked.
Juneau Animal Control is searching for an elusive German Shepherd
After a German Shepherd named Jackie evaded euthanasia in Los Angeles, she’s now evading animal control officers in Juneau.

This is comparable to when your house dog doesn’t want to walk over a metal grate on the ground: feels too floaty for puppy proprioception.
Yes. I still remember his team circling on the ice. Please make it across the ice.

You remember we learned that the ice makes a lot of noise because the water is moving under it. That's why his team didn't want to cross. Makes me wonder what noises it's making this year with climate change.

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and "Nic will show up where Nic shows up" 😆 #MusherSky
In Shaktoolik are Riley Dyche and Matt Failor and either Nic Petit or Nic Petit's tracker, I'm not sure which (there have been varying stories). Nic will show up where Nic shows up as always. Lauro Eklund and Anna Berington are 28 miles from Shaktoolik with Jason Mackey 2 miles behind. #mushersky 6/

This is so wild to me bc if you know anything about Alaskans, it’s that we will pretty much ALWAYS go the extra mile to ensure someone else’s safety, knowing it will be us one day. I can’t picture volunteers happily leaving with Jenny and others still on the trail. I also can’t see them stealing…
Yeah. The current red lantern got to kaltag 2 and her drop bags (and all non-vet volunteers) were gone
March 14, 2025 at 1:36 AM
This is a health and safety issue for both Jenny and the dogs. This is unacceptable. Mushers plan meticulously and depend on those drop bags for SURVIVAL.
#mushersky #uglydogs
As per her kennel’s FB page, all of Red Lantern Jenny Roddewig’s drop bags in Kaltag were stolen. She has managed to scrounge enough supplies to keep going, but “this is a major setback and very disheartening.” No kidding!

Jeff Deeter confirms Justin Olnes was running a good puppy schedule. Too bad the only people who don’t believe that are ITC.

Today is a soft closure at work so only about 8 or so of us will be in today. Tomorrow is pi day and at least 3 of us are bringing pies (I got 2). Stay tuned to see how this goes.

I’d like to point out that despite having a two week lead time and starting from a new location, at no point did the org ask for more volunteers. They could and should have.
