On 29 November 1971: J.R.R. #Tolkien's wife Edith died.

He later said: "I never called Edith Lúthien – but she was the source of the story that in time became the chief part of the Silmarillion. [..] But the story has gone crooked, & I am left, and I cannot plead before the inexorable Mandos."

Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know: in J.R.R. #Tolkien's Númenor, the people conducted annually Three Prayers - ceremonies in praise of Eru. The last of these was "Eruhantalë" - or "Thanksgiving to Eru" - and took place at the end of Autumn.

He may have died 52 years ago but his influence and legacy lives on in us all. Namárië. #BookSky

Happy #InternationalCatDay! Tevildo was a servant of Melko in the early works of Tolkien. A precursor to Sauron, this perhaps explains this quote: "The Eye was rimmed with fire, but was itself glazed, yellow as a cat's, watchful and intent."

In Tolkien's works, Faerie is seen as the land of endless beauty and peril. Humility is required here, or disasters shall strike. This concept is also present in hutan larangan ("forbidden forest"), prevalent in various cultures in Indonesia. 1/8 🧵

When I say the term "working homeless" is no longer a contradiction in America, this is exactly why.
