Das böse Pferd denkt jetzt: DICH fress ich! Das ist zumindest das, was viele Naturschützer über Pferde denken. In Wirklichkeit brauchen Pferde nur Platz auf der Weide, dann blüht es nur so. Dieses Gebiet hier mit seinen Koniks ist das orchideenreichste Gebiet in ganz Mitteleuropa, das ich kenne.

Field crickets (Gryllinae) aren't just plain brown chirping things in backyards - the group is actually pretty diverse, with >3,000 species. Maybe the weirdest are in the genus Sciobia, which all have these delightful Pikmin-like "hats" 🥺

The new European Butterfly Red List found that the biggest threats to butterflies continue to be habitat loss and degradation but climate warming is having a devastating effect on sp. in the far north and far south of Europe. 52% (34) of all Red List sp. are now threatened by climate warming.

Meist bekommt man die Waldgrillen (Nemobius sylvestris) nicht zu Gesicht, sondern hört nur ihre Stridulationsgeräusche. Hier zeigte sich ein Weibchen von seiner kooperativen Seite.

Eine braune Waldgrille sitzt auf moosbedecktem Steinuntergrund. Das Insekt zeigt die typischen langen Fühler, kräftigen Sprungbeine und den gedrungenen Körperbau. Der glänzend schwarze Kopf kontrastiert mit dem hell- bis mittelbraunen Körper, der dunkle Flecken und Streifen aufweist. Links im Bild ist grünes Moos zu sehen. Eine Waldgrille in Seitenansicht auf natürlichem Boden zwischen Gras und Moos. Deutlich erkennbar sind die charakteristischen Merkmale: der schwarze, glänzende Kopf mit großen Augen, die langen, segmentierten Antennen und die kräftigen, bedornten Hinterbeine. Der braune Körper zeigt eine leichte Streifenmusterung auf den zusammengelegten Flügeln. Eine Waldgrille zwischen dürren Grashalmen und Pflanzenstängeln in ihrem natürlichen Lebensraum. Das Tier präsentiert sich von der Seite, wobei die typische Körperform mit dem breiten Thorax und dem schwarzen Kopf gut sichtbar ist. Die Umgebung aus vertrockneten Pflanzenteilen zeigt den herbstlichen Lebensraum. Detailaufnahme des Kopfes einer Waldgrille von vorn. Besonders auffällig sind die großen, facettenreichen Augen und die kräftigen Mundwerkzeuge. Der schwarze, glänzende Kopf zeigt braune Markierungen, und die langen Fühler sind deutlich sichtbar. Im Hintergrund erkennt man den braunen Körper und die natürliche Bodenvegetation.

Nochmal Pfynwald bei Leuk im Wallis. Eine echte Landschaftsperle. Naturschützern ist hier vor Jahren das Husarenstück gelungen, der Rhone trotz des enormen Nutzungsdruckes einen 6km langen Wildflussabschnitt zu sichern, der heute der einzige unregulierte Abschnitt an der gesamten Rhone ist!

The unusual macropterous form (f. burri) of the usually flightless Short-winged Conehead. Males are v. difficult to tell from Long-winged C-H but females like this are easier as they have shorter, curving ovipositors. A 1st for me, seen yesterday at Prenton Dell Claypit. @tanyptera.bsky.social
Short-winged Conehead, Conocephalus dorsalis f. burri (the flying form of a typically flightless species). A slender, green cricket, with unusually long, brown wings. This is a female, with a pointed, curving ovipositor.
