Das böse Pferd denkt jetzt: DICH fress ich! Das ist zumindest das, was viele Naturschützer über Pferde denken. In Wirklichkeit brauchen Pferde nur Platz auf der Weide, dann blüht es nur so. Dieses Gebiet hier mit seinen Koniks ist das orchideenreichste Gebiet in ganz Mitteleuropa, das ich kenne.

Field crickets (Gryllinae) aren't just plain brown chirping things in backyards - the group is actually pretty diverse, with >3,000 species. Maybe the weirdest are in the genus Sciobia, which all have these delightful Pikmin-like "hats" 🥺

The new European Butterfly Red List found that the biggest threats to butterflies continue to be habitat loss and degradation but climate warming is having a devastating effect on sp. in the far north and far south of Europe. 52% (34) of all Red List sp. are now threatened by climate warming.

Meist bekommt man die Waldgrillen (Nemobius sylvestris) nicht zu Gesicht, sondern hört nur ihre Stridulationsgeräusche. Hier zeigte sich ein Weibchen von seiner kooperativen Seite.

Nochmal Pfynwald bei Leuk im Wallis. Eine echte Landschaftsperle. Naturschützern ist hier vor Jahren das Husarenstück gelungen, der Rhone trotz des enormen Nutzungsdruckes einen 6km langen Wildflussabschnitt zu sichern, der heute der einzige unregulierte Abschnitt an der gesamten Rhone ist!

The unusual macropterous form (f. burri) of the usually flightless Short-winged Conehead. Males are v. difficult to tell from Long-winged C-H but females like this are easier as they have shorter, curving ovipositors. A 1st for me, seen yesterday at Prenton Dell Claypit. @tanyptera.bsky.social

This project took almost all Winter to finish and now finally the printed cards arrived. Nocturnal butterflies of the Kerstlingeröder Feld. A hot topic in Göttingen, students love the course by @consbiogoe.bsky.social. Great to see this passion arise in the next generation of biologists!
