💡 The mystery of the geometrid moth 𝘔𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘢, originally described from Croatia, has been solved.

🔬 By analysing a rare new specimen found in 2024, researchers have confirmed that this moth is an ancient lineage that now occupies its own branch in the evolutionary tree.

A new lineage of looper moths have been discovered in the South African Cape Floristic Region, featuring two distinct species: 𝘍𝘺𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 and 𝘍𝘺𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢.

There's a new isopod on the dock. 🐛🌊

In this study, a new valviferan isopod - 𝘌𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘦 - is described from the shallow coastal waters of Argentine Patagonia, and an identification key to 𝘌𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢 species from South America is provided.

Two new predatory mites of 𝘈𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 reported in China: 𝘈. 𝘬𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴 and 𝘈. 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴.

The latter features a unique star-shaped pattern across its body that looks like celestial tracks under a microscope, hence its name. ⭐
