idea being that the negative space around the S shape is the actual script and not the S itself, with the intent of informal Kryptonese looking kinda like sunspots?? idk, haven't put that much thought into it

A lot of people go on about “Superheroes are inherently fascist” and don’t realize that Siegel and Shuster were way ahead of them! “Superman” was a subversion of the fascist ubermensch archetype very popular in the public imagination at the time. Their first idea was a much more generic take.

Reminder Superman is not a power fantasy, he's an altruism fantasy.

The idea of someone with godlike powers using them solely for good (with an antagonist who is a billionaire, who by definition do the opposite) was dreamt up by Jewish kids in the 30s and its just as if not more relevant now.
