Wrote about many dazzling openings & endings in anime lately! The cool creators behind them and their techniques, who has historically been in charge, and how current circumstances (overwork, inflated expectations, cynicism) have shifted that role. Complex topic! blog.sakugabooru.com/2025/06/28/w...

Spring 2025 is coming to an end, and with it, a lot of incredible opening and ending sequences. It’s time to delve deep into those works and their creators, but even more importantly, how the…

On a similar note: Maenami has explicitly said that the episode that inspired him to one day key animate everything on his own was Tetsuya Takeuchi's work in Honey and Clover #07. Will this inspire people to go watch the show? Probably not, but it should

Motto Doremi's ending sequence is my favourite one so far. Beautiful visuals, emotional song and it tells a really nice little story!

You can tell when something will Happen involving BG elements because objects meaningfully interacted with are drawn in cel. This is part of the charm but it can rob you of suspense, so directors in both new & classic anime have attempted ingenious ways to hide that - Takashi Anno was great at it

Really wanted Zenshuu to be good since it's an original led by Mitsue Yamazaki, but ever since that 2nd PV that revealed it was an isekai I lost hope and the first episode confirmed it. It's just a boring mess, the nice bank animation won't save it. Genuinely baffled

I was able to participate in this year's sakuga bowl! Had a lot of fun writing and it's a great honor to be listed together with so many people I hugely respect!

I might have cheated since I wrote the most about non 2024 anime but I'd be really grateful if you read my and everyone else's entries!
Time to bid a final goodbye to 2024! Like every year, we gathered animators, directors, writers, producers, you name it - many individuals related to animation, sharing their favorite works old and new. Join the Sakugabooru Animation Awards 2024, aka Sakugabowl!

Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai Shite Ita.

Color Design: Yukari Gotou

I really like the color design in this series and in this thread I'm going to try make sense out of it. Warning: I might be entirely off in my analysis but it should be fun.

Ranma 1/2: Netto-hen #105
SB: Junji Nishimura
ED: Shinji Takagi
AD: Atsuko Nakajima

A fully anime-original christmas episode and it's one of the best of the whole series! To me this episode is one of the best examples of how well the animation staff understood the series and its characters -->

Urusei Yatsura #44
SB/AD: Kazuo Yamazaki
ED: Junji Nishimura

Considered by many as the best episode of the series (with good reason). This episode is from the Oshii era, but Yamazaki really stood out here and proved he was the best choice as Oshii's sucessor as series director.

Ojamajo Doremi S2 #04
SB/ED: Shigeyasu Yamauchi
AD: Yasuhiro Yamatane

In this season, the main cast of girls take care of a cute, but troublesome magical baby. It enables all sorts of fun situations, but this episode shows the more serious side of a situation like this and it sure hits.

No need to gloat about how vindicating it is to see the Chainsaw Man anime adjust in the way it has under Yoshihara's direction, because the teaser already says everything. I'd say it's a wild pivot for an ongoing high-profile work, but its sibling project did it even more emphatically recently

There's this AI anime coming out next year and the creators of the show have the most perfect name.

You honestly can't make it up.

Yasuhiro Irie answered to my tweet and confirmed a scene he animated for Ranma 1/2!

So cool that he took the time to answer and also damm he was already animating like this in the first year of his career as a key animator??
