I wrote a book on Blaxploitation Cinema! Ya damn right! It's called BLACK CAESARS AND FOXY CLEOPATRAS: A HISTORY OF BLAXPLOITATION CINEMA. Available at bookstores, libraries and even an audiobook (read by moi). If you want to get a copy, ask yo' mama!
Someday I will have to tell the story of how Elvis Mitchell and I helped Udo Kier buy killer bee honey online while chilling in the Lufthansa first class lounge in the Krakow airport. For now, RIP to a legend.

My Siskel & Ebert tribute brought out the MY DINNER WITH ANDRE hive! They were not happy that I think it's is an unwatchable bore.

WTF? Are there MY DINNER WITH ANDRE cosplay events? Do people dress up like Wallace Shawn?

Roger was amused that I hated MDWA but "glad Gene and I got you to watch."

We had a great turnout for CLAUDINE. The audience loved the movie, I didn't botch my intro AND somebody bought my book at the MoMI bookstore! I signed it, of course.

I'm reposting my @vulture.com tribute to Diahann Carroll because I'm introducing CLAUDINE today at 2 at the Museum of the Moving Image.

Brendan Fraser is so good in RENTAL FAMILY that I can almost forgive him for that godawful travesty he won the Oscar for a few years ago. The heartwarming and heartbreaking movie he's in now is also excellent. Shannon Mahina Gorman for the win.

‘Rental Family’ is a real keeper - The Boston Globe
Brendan Fraser is excellent in this lovely dramedy about an American actor’s unusual new job in Tokyo.

This is refreshing! Most politicians would not have done this at all. Plus, I've been saying "sui generis" wrong all this time?!
completely outside of politics, this is so charming

Kudos to our design team at the Boston Globe! Their layout for my WICKED: FOR GOOD review on the front page of today's Weekend section is absolutely incredible.

I couldn't let Siskel & Ebert's 50th anniversary go by without writing something for the Globe to honor them. I'm sure the Bostonians will give it two thumbs down, WAY down, because it's not about Boston. But it's my column, so NYAAH!

Buy it!! It's a wonderful book! Guess who implicitly endorses it with an appearance at around 1:45 in this clip?

This was hours after Trump said Democrats in Congress should be executed.

I'm in the critical minority for my pan of the horrendous bore PETER HUJAR'S DAY, which the Globe snuck into the paper today rather than tomorrow. I'm going to ignore the suspicious ticking jar of marmalade that was delivered to me from "darkest Peru" today.

JAY KELLY would make a great double feature with SENTIMENTAL VALUE. I liked the more conventional George Clooney movie more, though. Noah Baumbach may be the only director to get great performances out of Adam Sandler. (See this and "The Meyerowitz Stories.")

WICKED: FOR GOOD reminds us, in a very long, drawn out fashion, that the second act of the musical is basically crap with one good song in it. Just plain dark and dour. Though its two leads can sing, it's Jeff Goldblum who gets the one memorable musical number.

‘Wicked: For Good’ is wicked not great - The Boston Globe
This second act is a darker, more dour affair that’s too scary for young kids. But man, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande can sing!

The best thing about the WICKED movies is that I get to go full Bahston in my headlines! I didn't care for the first part, but at least it was fun. This is not so much fun, but it proves my childhood theory that Glinda is the real villain of THE WIZARD OF OZ.
