DW Griffith directed BIRTH OF A NATION (1915), a virulently racist film (and neither his first nor his last one of those) that saw racist violence follow wherever it was screened.

So, naturally, there are film bros and gals who think we should "ignore the racism" and keep it in the canon.

I'm back in time for #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth! This year, I actually intend to participate beyond a vague "you're not alone" post with associated hashtags - so, throughout the month of May, I'll be periodically posting about my own mental illness and how it's seen by society.

I made a couple of threads on the fascism app that I guess should also go here. First, my Hitchcock thread (to give context to the next.)

I really want to distract myself from real life (aka our collective descent into hell) with a movie. However, I don't just have a weird aversion to genres like screwball comedy/silly slice of life/most anything that might actually cheer me up, but somehow naturally gravitate toward depressing shit.

[34x Convicted Felon-Elect]2028 is trending on the dumpster fire app, and for some reason I keep getting bombarded with all-caps meltdowns and people blocking me in multiple threads just for asking an innocent question:

Do you think an 82 year old whose blood type is McDouble would be alive enough?

Look, when you put the words "A24", "horror", and "Malkovich" in the same sentence, there's absolutely nothing more you need to tell me because I want it immediately injected straight into my veins. GIMME.

Still completely consumed by the aftereffects of NOSFERATU. Good lord, the sheer amount of possibilities for analyses...

Every so often YouTube's incredibly bizarre, possibly demonically possessed recommendations for me include one that actually appeals to me. A fantastic essay on a beloved show from my youth by someone whose enthusiasm and love for media is delightfully at the forefront.

THIS. I know an enormous array of people in the industry, at nearly all levels & esp in recent years, they've been unemployed, working multiple jobs, moving out of LA and/or living paycheck to paycheck--barely. Crews, actors, producers, writers, directors, a fair few execs--they're just getting by.
There is a persistent myth that if you work in entertainment - if you've done something people have absolutely heard of or enjoyed - that you must be rich. Actors, writers, producers: rich.

The sad truth is most of Hollywood is working class. So when you see a Go Fund Me, there's a reason it exists

Anyway, gonna try and use this app more and slowly wean myself off the other. It's honestly only enhancing the damage inflicted by people being more and more monstrous every single day, and that itself is bad enough.

Guess this goes here! (4.34pmET)

The credits are rolling on #Nosferatu. I have to say, I really, *really* wanted to love this one, but...
...love doesn't even come close to describing how I feel about this film. It's exquisite, near-immaculate, and I could write 6 papers about 6 different aspects.

You know what I already love about Bluesky? That Posie fucking Parker isn't on it, which means I'll never randomly get jumpscared by her fucked up tweets even though I blocked her AND muted her name(s). Pure bliss.

So I was just getting myself a coffee and minding my own business when suddenly I saw a huge flock of drones. They must be a stronger variant of the American species because they were disguised as cheap windup barking puppy toys you buy last minute Christmas Eve.

I have a helluva good idea for a podcast that is kind of left field for me (not 100%). If you’re a film lover with some type of theologian background, are a religious person of any stripe, or have an interest in the morbidly curious hit me up. Bonus if you have podcast production experience.

Script for the August video (that may or may not actually come out in August at this rate) is finally complete. This is doubly satisfying for me as it means I don't have to research the horrifying and depressing topic of American eugenics anymore.
