We have upgraded our geomagnetic forecast today (12 November 2025) to the highest intensity level amid an ongoing solar storm.
Current predictions suggest that the activity will result in potentially the largest solar storm to hit our planet in over two decades.

It was cloudy here until after the event was over, but I’m thrilled so many got to see the aurora as far south as California and Texas. So many got to experience what I did last year, and I’m happy for that. Not a guarantee, but there is another chance tomorrow night.

SWPC has only ever issued a handful of G4 watches, and we have now for Nov 12 due to three incoming CMEs. Storming may begin on Nov 11 with the impact of the first CME with two more close behind it.
If the forecast verifies, much of the U.S. may see the aurora Tue/Wed nights.

Not only did I do my truck maintenance today on stream, but later on I did this! Linux Mint instead of Windows on my non-stream PC.

Here in 30 minutes I'll be going live with something completely different! My truck needs maintenance, so I figured I'd hang out with all of you while I do it! Setting up the laptop and the cameras in the garage was a pain. Come hang out!

Some days are really, really hard. Today was pretty good. I was productive, had a fire in the backyard, had some drinks...and I have a lot of people who love and care about me and want to see me succeed. Now if only my bad brain would always recognize and remember that, that would be amazing

Learned a lot tonight about how Aurora happen and forecasting substorms (the "good stuff") through @vincentledvina.bsky.social and his website. Was very cool watching in real time as I was learning how to monitor the magnetometers. Thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge, Vincent!
Whenever you see auroral beads like these, a substorm is about to occur. You typically have 1-2 minutes before things really start to get going, so auroral beads are a "OH SH*T" kind of aurora that you should learn to recognize.

So I became overwhelmed with how bad everything is. Did a bit of spiraling for a while, then took a social media break. Starting to feel better; in fact I went to the gym today for the first time in 3 months. Just as I would tell my friends, I have to take one day at a time and do what I can.

Check webcams and head out to your spots. Aurora may intensify shortly after the shock reaches our magnetosphere.

Tight spread indicates a more confident result in the arrival time. Every ensemble run predicts B_t at least 30 nT, so if things align, we should be in for a nice geomagnetic storm today. Let’s wait and see…
