Scary things that you may have recently read headlines about that it turned out you didn’t have to worry about include: microplastics in your brain, black plastic spatulas, intermittent fasting, and plant based meat alternatives.

Also, no, you do not eat a credit card’s worth of plastic a month.

Hello, this tariff thing has been very insane and I am working on a list of all of the ways that it is insane. It is long and contains things that are both very serious and very silly but in case I'm missing something...suggestions?

Mr Rogers and Sesame Street taught me love, kindness, compassion, and empathy. Star Trek taught me to dream of and aspire to help create a better and more diverse world. Star Wars and Tolkien taught me to fight for freedom, even in the face of overwhelming odds and great evil.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

“Computers are indirect costs. They are essential for research, but don’t get used up,” Iwashyna says. “Research office space, lab space, staplers, libraries — all of these are not specific to only a single project, so they are covered under indirect costs.”

NIH Spending Cuts on ‘Indirect Costs’ Could Halt Lifesaving Research
Scientists are worried about the future of the nation’s health if these cuts, now being challenged in court, are enacted.

Marbury v Madison is a seminal case from 1803 that holds that the federal courts must determine the constitutionality of the actions of the other two branches of government. Hope that helps, Stephen.

“There are plenty of remote jobs disabled people could be doing”

On the dwp Find a Job site (which replaced the jobcentre site) there’s 122k jobs.
fully remote 877
+ in NE England - 30
in my city - 6
+ disability confident ZERO

The most interesting part? They're all pip assessor jobs.

Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !”

Absolutely sick to death of Kanye West using his autism and bipolar diagnoses to excuse being a bigot. It’s beyond offensive and upsetting. Why can’t this man just stfu and go back to making music as good as his Graduation album ??

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.
