"Confirmed to Stuff" via a formal judgment of the High Court of NZ which also was published on the Courts of NZ decisions of public interest ... but sure, your news organisation got the scoop 🙄

This is really just Opposition MPs doing their job, reading the accounts and asking the right questions. And the Minister of Finance insulting them because she doesn't want to answer the questions.
“Under questioning in the meeting, Willis also confirmed the government had no intention of buying offshore carbon credits to meet the 2030 Paris agreement as part of a "performative awards ceremony" even if that meant it would breach its commitment.”

'A bit tired, a bit ratty': Heated exchange between Willis and Labour MPs at Parliament
The Finance Minister has called the opposition's behaviour "unbecoming" after accusations of name-calling and conspiracy-thinking.

The National Government's handling of iRex should be treated as one of New Zealand's greatest political scandals.

An impulsive Government got power and immediately made an ideological decision to cancel an existing project, ultimately costing hundreds of millions and creating worse infrastructure!

We live in a strange world where stories about vehicles banging into cycle lane kerbing is framed as a pain in the ass for motorists, rather than a full-on vindication of efforts to protect cyclists from bad drivers.

So, we knew it was bad — undemocratic expedited process, dodgy retrospectivity and objectionable nullification of claims. But this shows it was doubly worse — a calculated and deliberate ambush to deprive claimants and a policy fait accompli.

A mandate is what voters vote for next time

It's more important than ever that this government is voted out in 2026

Because of it is not, their cynical antidemocratic urgency blitzkrieg will be legitimised and will form the standard model for future government conduct, as it did in 1984 & 1987

It is very disturbing and upsetting to see the huge increase in rough sleepers in the Auckland City Centre over the last 12 months. Thank you to Mr Luxon for cutting emergency housing while the economy was tanking.
