Happy Saturday, let's do this

Most of our lives are spent in Holy Saturday. That is, not in the unimaginable pain of a Good Friday, or in the unbounded joy of an Easter Sunday, but in between. Don't overlook what Holy Saturday can teach us about God, about waiting and about life. www.americamagazine.org/faith/2017/0...

I’ll tell y’all something this morning. I still believe the Lord is good. I still believe in the grace that is chocolate. That as long as there are tomatoes, there is salsa. That birds sing because they know something we don’t. I believe laughter is audible hope. And love is spite to the darkness.

I think love is the truest miracle. Love in a climate of hate. The one clear thing in chaos. The clarity of knowing in all the not knowing that this is obedience. The highest and hardest calling. It’s not sappy, lazy or ill-informed. Love is fearsome. The single most threatening defense that exists.

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

Winter is like nutmeg, like after Christmas is over I really don’t need you anymore. Shoo.

There are no rules in this no man’s land between Christmas & New Years.

Read all night! Don’t finish a book! Read three books at once!

Just go nuts.

If the lowly are going to be lifted up,

if the hungry are going to be filled with good things,

it’s going to be because God’s people

listened to the call of of the Holy Spirit

& responded & acted,

embodying the love of Jesus in practical, life-altering ways.

I know with certainty that there is hope for the darkest of stories because the Light of the World has come. His name is Jesus, and He brings life to dead places, forgives sins, and heals the broken and wounded.

I need Advent this year.

To my very bones.
