This is an important reminder: even the LAPD acknowledged yesterday that everything was peaceful.

Then Trump brought the chaos.

He is responsible.

ICE causing fires from their own tear gas and flash grenades, don’t get it twisted. They’re the ones causing damages to cities.
June 9, 2025 at 1:59 PM
It is completely unlawful for ICE to turn away members of Congress like this. The law could not be more clear; no member of Congress may be denied access to a facility where ICE is detaining someone, and they cannot be required to schedule in advance. Surprise inspections must be surprise.
If ICE were acting entirely within the law and maintaining good conditions in all its facilities, they would not be turning Congresspeople away.

But they clearly aren't.

⚠️ Warning: The Trump administration is circulating footage from 2020 to make the situation in L.A. appear more chaotic than it is. This is an intentional effort to manufacture a larger crisis. Stay alert. Pay attention. The propaganda machine is in overdrive.

Dozens of journalists were assaulted by law enforcement in Los Angeles this weekend.

The press were just doing their job -- a sacred one explicitly protected by law.

Press rights orgs will follow up collectively tomorrow.

Tonight, I emailed evidence to local/state/federal officials. My sign off:

Keep protesting. Don’t light cars on fire. Distracts from a situation in which Trump looks bad for over the top raids that spurred the crisis and his obvious exploiting of the crisis he started. Really nothing is more counterproductive. Just throwing him a lifeline.

I do wonder what it costs financially to have an army occupying Los Angeles and why I keep being told the government doesn't have enough money to pay for public schools to buy supplies for their teachers

This language--"L.A. Immigration Protests and the Federal Response"--suggests that it was "immigration protests" that set off a "federal response." But this gets it backward: at every turn, the Trump administration has been the aggressor and the instigator. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

New: In a filing, the Trump administration answered only one of the three questions that Judge Xinis ordered it to address.

It said that Abrego Garcia is in CECOT and is alive.

It didn't answer the other two questions: what steps it's taken to return him, and what steps it plans to take to do so.

Trump claims that the future of people removed to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act/Abrego Garcia is "up to President B" (Bukele). As far as we know, the US government hasn't tried to retrieve any of them, but continues to pay El Salvador for their detention.

I agree that this is the logical endpoint, but it is also likely its Kryptonite because then it makes our courts impotent. Courts don’t like giving up their power (see post 9/11). So the endgame, if the courts want to stay relevant, is to say the whole thing is unconstitutional from the jump
Why? Because if Trump can legally say “We can’t bring him home” without having to prove it, that means he doesn’t have to bring anyone home. And if he doesn’t have to bring anyone home, he can send anyone there forever. END/
