This digital map and archive of Italian punk zines from the 1980s has been blowing my mind all day. Some of it is weird to load but it's worth the effort. Tons of energy! Some interesting art zines too. paolopalmacci.it/capitmundi/b...

The academic’s mid-summer crisis is a mid-life crisis in miniature:

You realize summer is half gone, & not only that: you see that the longest & least burdened days came early, & they are well past. You compare all you thought you’d do against the days remaining & grieve for what never will be

A new database on marine migratory patterns aims to address gaps in the knowledge of policymakers and conservationists.

The database highlights the interconnected nature of marine migrations, and underscores the need for cross-border collaboration in conservation efforts.
New map highlights complex web of marine migrations
Where are all the marine animals going? Given the vastness of the oceans, the countless species that live in them, and the lack of a global data set, it’s not easy to figure that out. However, the…

So apparently the AP Human Geography site is culling some of its "daily videos" for class use. A teacher tells me the videos on redlining and white flight are gone. In the screenshot below, you can see the Daily Videos start with no. 2 (no. 1 on this page was redlining, and it's gone now).

The most striking result from yesterday’s German election #btw2025 🇩🇪:

🔹 35 years after reunification: The GDR is redrawn on this map.
🔹 The AfD won 45 out of 48 electoral districts in the East.
🔹 In some parts of Saxony, they came close to 50%!

Why is this happening? Here’s my take 👇

What such proclamations — and smart city / Neom-ish boosterism — fail(s)to do is contextualize these claims in relation to similar arguments made about earlier media technologies (the web! 📺! ☎️! print!) and 1000s of years of entangled media + urban histories (the subject of my 2017 book)!

Mrs Woolie: Real technical or financial complications, or like, California bullshit, they can't fix it because a historic preservation group threw a fit?
