we can spend a billion dollars on adding a new lane that won't fix congestion but we can't spend a million dollars on making it safe to walk outside, to improve public transportation, or to build bike lanes, all of which are cheaper than roads.
Project to add a lane, making a safer 5 Freeway between 405 and 55, gets underway
The $715 million project will be funded by Measure M, the half-cent sales tax collected in Orange County for transportation projects, and state and federal contributions.

It's clear that the advocates of the new e-bike law advanced it on false pretenses. The police always had the ability to intervene when people were riding e-bikes dangerously, and e-bikes that go faster than 20 mph always required registration and insurance.

Can plants and lights help stop crime? In Philadelphia, that idea has been put to the test, with encouraging results. Both city-led and community-driven efforts to clean and maintain streets have been among many interventions credited for dramatic reductions in gun violence.

Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes?

That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.

Too many “very serious people” lapped up Macedo and Lee’s book. Scientists and clinicians who work on infectious diseases were appalled. They did a lot of damage and have aided and abetted this administration as they promoted COVID contrarians for key posts.
There’s a book from political scientists Macedo and Lee that claims the COVID-19 pandemic was not as much of a threat to public health as was supposed, calling into question the role of expertise.

Here, an excellent corrective to that erroneous position:
