Craig refusing to compromise on scoring to his standard is why I love him

Fine, I'm gonna start posting about strictly, since I'm reading everyone else's posts anyway.

Go ahead and mute the "scd" tag if you need to!

Love it when journalists talk directly to the people affected by the issue. No, AI isn't good for ideation or developing ideas. That's one more thing we can strike of the list of things it can do.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier. Zero said it did.

what I say: no worries, boss

what I mean: I am about 90% worries by weight at this point but I don't want to make that your problem

Let's go, just got blocked for the first time, presumably for being anti AI

this might be true for some developers, if you're only thinking individually. are you factoring in environmental and societal costs? someone is paying for the slop, its just might not be you right now
I think that may be the core division here: if you are an author or an artist the cons of generative AI very likely outweigh the pros for you

If you are a software developer the opposite is true

Okay, for my trip to Japan I had the silly idea to try going to every station on a single train line. I picked the Abukuma Kyūkō line entirely arbitrarily, and now I'm here in Fukushima to start. The goal is to take a photo outside every station.

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

Happy birthday to the Soviet linguist Yuri Knorozov who casually deciphered the Mayan script in 1952 and got pissed when editors removed his cat as co-author on papers or cropped her out of his author headshot (the only picture of himself he even liked)

I feel like we undervalue—well, probably not *hate,* which is having its moment in the sun in global politics—but *haterism* as a project. Haterism is the only tool available to people who want to engage seriously with “AI.” There is no compromise path. We can submit, or we can be haters.
I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
I Am An AI Hater
I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

this is quintessential tourist shit but they have like 9 different ramen restaurants in this place so I think I might be in heaven
November 14, 2025 at 6:18 AM
Something I'm finding super interesting about Tokyo is that the balance of technology to people seems very different. Sure a lot of restaurants have you order food with a machine, but everywhere you go there's a guy in a cute little uniform who's job it is to direct traffic or something.
