The summer my daughter was 15, she participated in a science camp. And even though the camp bus dropped her off less than a half mile from our home, I had to pick her up from the bus stop. Because the camp required that parents pick up their minor children.

This post is not about a bus stop.

A couple weeks ago a friend was telling me about someone she knew who had been on maternity leave, and said she had taken "the full year." I said, "A whole year? Wow, what kind of fancy job does she have that gives her a YEAR of leave?" and my friend looked surprised & said, "... welcome to Canada?"

I won't wade into the marsh in which this conversation is currently going on, but I'm happy to note that the first thing a twenty-first-century publishing entity does on receipt of a manuscript and to prepare it for eventual publication is to yank out every single double space after a period.
