Endlessly curious, but really really tired of living in times that are waaaaay past “interesting.” Big fan of real solutions as well as mere amusements.
@simonwdc.bsky.social i love that you give us to-do items with every post. The French Revolution changed because women did bread riots. We need priced and not-abstract-intellectual concepts to make change. Plain simple week-to-week PRICES!

This took a while to get done, but I've chronicled my day among the protesters in Los Angeles, and the idea that this is anything but a celebration of cultural heritage and a firm, nonviolent demand to protect family, friends and neighbors is totally ridiculous.

Cries of Defiance and Songs of Joy in Los Angeles
The protesters are being called unspeakably violent by the Trump administration. I mostly saw clergy sit-ins and Tejano bands.

Let’s not forget that earlier today, this day was known as “we cannot build bananas in America” day. That is, until everything went bananas
DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?

LUTNICK: Generally 10%

DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%

LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff

DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

A reminder that regardless of the idiots Trump has put in charge of our government the start of hurricane season is the time to check your preparations -- water and batteries top the list. Don't be caught in a last minute rush for supplies. A hurricane cannot be stopped with a Sharpie

These SpaceX failures are being financed by taxpayer dollars. So far, over $7,000,000,000. So this is *actual* government waste, unlike the *alleged* waste at Social Security that DOGE was unable to find.

Rep Flood (R-NE) voted for a bill that guts the federal court's authority to enforce contempt orders.

When a voter confronted him, he claimed: “I didn’t know that was on the bill.”

Since when do lawyers sign without reading docs first?

If that’s true, he’s incompetent.
If it’s not, he’s lying.

I think a lot about this quote from Anaïs Nin’s diary from 1939-1944:

“America is in even greater danger because of its cult of toughness, its hatred of sensitivity, and someday it may have to pay a price for this, because atrophy of feeling creates criminals”.

4-year-old Bakersfield girl facing deportation could die within days of losing medical care - Los Angeles Times

Don’t ever tell me that Christians support the GOP. There is nothing Christian or Christ-like about this. Just plain old cruelty and callousness:
4-year-old Bakersfield girl facing deportation could die within days of losing medical care
In 2023, a Mexican girl, 4, was allowed U.S. entry for lifesaving medical care. She and her parents, who live in Bakersfield, have been told they must leave.

🧪 Attention those with terminated grants, including for NSF, NASA, EPA, NIH, etc:

Let Congress know about the impact of terminations via this form: democrats-science.house.gov/grantcancela...

Only Dem staff on the House Science Committee will have access (unless if you explicitly state otherwise).
