I remembered these lyrics but not what song they were from so I googled them and your mate Al reckons they're from Common People...
The lyrics "So many people, it is the same / The valleys open up, it is the same / Get a potato out, it is the same / When I open the mail, it's the same game" are from the song "Common People" by the band Pulp.
