Bought myself To Rise in the Dark by Nick J. Brown. His almost daily Vic & Bob pics on here bring me such a warm glow, I already feel endeared to his work. But this seems right up my street and if my delivery is on track, I will be reading this weekend. @northernmailman.bsky.social

Started the new Best British Short Stories late last night. Probably not a good idea to read ‘Torsos’ by Linden Hibbert right before bed. Deeply strange and pretty unnerving stuff. Great though.

There’s a little terrier called Banjo running around the path as I’m trying to have my lunchtime walk. Just like fuck off Banjo, it’s not all about you mate.

I’ve edited this a bit on my on its last legs laptop. I hope the paragraphs looks a bit nicer now! Very short story if you want to take a look. kieranstorieswriter.wordpress.com/2025/10/21/o...

I’m enjoying Rule, Nostalgia by Hannah Rose Woods. Particularly good on how Blitz rhetoric was used during lockdown. Brat is fun but almost too disjointed for me. Described on the blurb as an ‘Instant Cult Classic’ which feels like a contradiction in terms.

Love this. I read The Building Inspector in one sitting. Unnerving, atmospheric. A great story in every flat, terrace, and former industrial estate. Favourites ‘The Ghost House’, ‘Lost’, and ‘Power Off’. Congratulations @dustynewrose.bsky.social

Great Nightjar post today: The Building Inspector by Myriam Frey @dustynewrose.bsky.social. Beautifully packaged by @nicholasroyle.bsky.social as always (book protected by a cutout from a box of Krave). Look forward to settling down with these stories later.

Finished this wintery morning. I thought it was all a bit academic. Nadsat all felt a bit wink-wink aren’t we clever. I’m fascinated by the epilogue which is in some editions but not others, and takes out any last invective by making Alex all broody.

We’re seeing The Exorcist tonight at our local cinema. As a former avid listener to the Church of Wittertainment, I could not be more excited. Seen it at home a lot. (It’s also our way of marking eight years together - happy anniversary, Al’.) youtu.be/Hj83ugShbic?...

Finished Starve Acre this morning. Very good. Liked it much more than the film.
Starting Starve Acre tonight. I was left a bit cold by the film when we watched it earlier this year. Found Matt Smith a bit distracting - too much of a performance, if that makes sense. Looking forward to this though. Got two thumbs-up from Alice.

Reading The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney. Just a real thrill being able to buy the whole series as an adult! This is the book that really got me reading. I remember Joseph Delaney coming into our school. A lovely, local man, and a real inspiration.
