Just trying to find that magical internet of the 2000s…
I’ve sat with this for a few days now, and I think it’s time for me to be done with CWG. They’ve lost a lot of local connection over the years, but providing extensive weather updates for the Trump parade but no mention of World Pride last week is the last straw.
Flood watch Saturday afternoon and evening. Runs from 2 to 11 p.m. Right now, it seems the local area could be stormy this evening but hard to say exactly where.

We'll have updates at cwg.live as we learn more.

This is an absolutely wild take about an app that is so deeply censored and state-regulated. Like even conceding that Twitter and Instagram are also censored, the levels are incomparable. Even more, the censorship on those apps that does exist is not directed by the state against undesirable groups…
I wrote about how American and Chinese internet users are accidentally cobbling together a techno-utopian version of the “global village,” even if it’s unlikely to last.
The Techno-Utopian Dream of the 1990s Is Alive on RedNote (For Now)
Will Americans actually use an app where the captchas aren't even in English?

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (book, TV special) has three named characters: the Grinch, Max (non-verbal dog), and Cindy-Lou Who (toddler). Yet in our LORE-DRIVEN POP CULTURE, every time someone expands the Grinch, they have to MAKE CINDY-LOU AN IMPORTANT CHARACTER. No! You could relax instead!

This is a great account for those of us who don’t speak Korean and can’t follow Korean media to get started following what’s going on

A pre-Thanksgiving marathon of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and The Ice Storm presents fascinating and competing views of suburban America through the lens of Thanksgiving. Maybe something about the America we could be vs the one we are.

Also they’re both just really fun movies.

Urinating in the shower is unlikely to create any health problems, according to urologists, and it’s not likely to clog up the drain.

Still, there are certain scenarios in which using the shower as a makeshift toilet might not be a good idea.
Is it OK to pee in the shower? Urologists explain | CNN
Urinating in the shower is fine, experts say, except in some special circumstances.

This is my favorite of all gift guides. It is filled with nonsense (complimentary) and I need every. Single. Item in it (and 1000% have used it to find gifts for people in the past).

This is like…the only thing that matters in the context of the navel-gazey “whither the Democrats” op-eds and self-promoting tv spots. It. Doesn’t. Matter. Voters didn’t like Harris for a variety of reasons *that won’t mean anything in two years*
Harris helped save the teamsters’ pensions and their membership preferred the candidate who wants to take away their right to organize. They didn’t care.
