and those monologues reframed the "central" story's parts, so the whole of it ended up feeling kind of fragmented and messy... but in a good way? like. even if some tired tropes didn't get deconstructed, they got such personal queer readings! the center cannot hold - and it shouldn't. #PrinceFaggot

and as the tropes were hit with no subtlety, since i was used to that frame around that genre, i - accepted it. EXCEPT i shouldn't have! because the "central" narrative kept getting interspersed with these terrific, powerful monologues by cast members - fictional but very personal #PrinceFaggot

...but the prince's love story, while at times campy & delightful & charged & clever, ultimately felt - flat? like, there was drama and kink and humor and rainy sweeping encounters and explicit sex, and - it was familiar. from royal romances to gay porn to some oft-perused ao3 tags. #PrinceFaggot
