It's not just writing either, but symbols and the spoken word. In any public space we're *constantly* filtering out information we don't (think we) need. Is it any wonder we miss stuff sometimes

99.9% of us 99.9% of the time. Our brains get so used to filtering out extraneous information, the 0.01% of it that's actually useful and relevant in that one, specific moment can be hard to spot. Autism-havers probably being the exception
